Baby Beach is a small beach tucked away behind a quiet residential neighborhood. A reef, just off the beach, protects the area from big waves, creating a pool of calm water with a sandy bottom, to be enjoyed by all ages. This is a great place for beginners to test their skills, a safe haven to learn everything from swimming to skimboarding. Snorkeling conditions are great at low tide, as the water is clear. High tide creates a longshore drift, or current, transforming the otherwise still waters in to a lap pool, great for all water exercises.
Shade trees run the length of the beach and hide walking trails throughout the area. Sandals are needed to protect from thorns.
This is a great beach for turtle watching. Early morning and sunset are the best times for sightings as the greatest number of turtles gather to feed.
Baby Beach is a common name assigned to calm ocean settings and is somewhat unofficial. There are actually three “Baby Beaches” located on Maui. Lahaina is home to one and Paia boasts the other two. Both beaches are on Hana Hwy and are located on the edge of town. This one can be distinguished by the fact that it is on the far end of Baldwin Beach from the H. A. Baldwin Beach Park.
Located off Hana Hwy. at mile marker 5, you will turn on to Nonohe Pl. At the next intersection you will veer right onto Paani for a few hundred feet. Take a left on Kealakai Pl. This road dead ends at the beach and both sides of the road are used for parking overflow.
Parking is limited as the beach lot holds only 15-20 cars. Be careful that you don’t park in front of any off road trail entrances. Some 4wd vehicles will park just over the hill and will need enough room to squeeze by when they leave. Step off the red clay parking lot down to the white sand beach.
