Kanaha Beach Park is 40 acres of white sand beach surrounded by trees that sits between Kahului Bay and Spreckelsville Beach. Also known as "Kite Beach" for the large number of Kite Surfers, Kanaha is home to a variety of water activities such as fishing, swimming, diving, surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, outrigger canoes and volleyball. Lae'ula O Kai Canoe Club is located in the middle of the park, next to the three volleyball courts. Swimming is allowed everywhere on this beach and there is a marked swim zone in front of the lifeguard tower. Due to the number of people and activities on the water, this is the safest place to swim when the lifeguards are on duty.
This park has camping areas, barbeques, picnic tables, public restrooms, showers, bicycle paths, nature areas and other amenities. The camping area is open to permitted campers for overnight use and has its own parking lot. (Note that all other parking lots are locked after the main park closes at 10:00pm) The camping area is closed the last Tuesday through Thursday of each month.
Kanaha Beach Park relies on community support for maintenance and cleanup, so leave this park in better condition than when you arrived. To volunteer to help Kanaha Beach, call Jan Dapitan at Community Work Day (808)877-2524. Kanaha Beach Park is open from 6:30am to 10:00pm daily and the lifeguard stations are manned from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Kanaha Beach Park is in Kahului, behind the Kahului airport. Take Hana Highway towards Wailuku and turn right onto Hobron Avenue. Turn right about a quarter mile onto the first real road you come to. The park is a little over a mile down the road on the left. There are numerous entrances to the park, all of them with plenty of parking and beautiful sections of beach and park.
